Pride month is a time when we celebrate the 2SLGBTQI+ community, reflect on the progress we’ve made, and advocate for what still needs to be done.
Recently, the 2SLGBTQI+ community has come under extreme attack, especially for members of our trans and gender non-conforming community. Hate speech has made its way into mainstream media, books are being banned, flags are taken down, anti-2SLGBTQI+ laws are introduced, and violence is on the rise. These are not only happening in countries around the world, they are happening in our own backyard.
These acts of discrimination, hate, and exclusion are harmful, and in some cases, deadly. They are harmful to our society, and among the most impacted are trans folks, drag artists and Black, Indigenous and racialized people. The progress we’ve achieved over the years seems to be under threat.
CGLCC lives by the value of inclusion and has made a commitment to ensuring this in everything we do. As an organization, through our employees and board members, we stand behind the belief that every human should have the opportunity to participate and be celebrated within our community, and be fully integrated into the economic fabric of society. CGLCC is committed to providing an accountable, safe environment for all employees, partners and community members, regardless of gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion or any other aspect of their identity. Our policy is clear: everyone engaging with CGLCC is responsible for conducting themselves in a professional and inclusive manner. Anything less will not be tolerated.
This Pride Month, we fiercely defend the entire 2SLGBTQI+ community, standing up against the violence, persecution, and hatred that we’ve seen sweeping across the world. We share your heartbreak and anger and we will not succumb to apathy. We want our members to know that we are here for you, and will continue to offer a safe space so you can thrive.
May this Pride Month remind us of the joy our community can bring to this world.
