Toronto, November 7, 2017 – The Canadian Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) has given its National Corporation of the Year Award for 2017 to the TD Bank Group.
The award is given to a company of 1,000 or more employees operating in at least three provinces or territories that has shown commitment to the 2SLGBTQI+ community. It has done this by providing programs and/or services specific to the 2SLGBTQI+ community (including its own employees) and by helping 2SLGBTQI+ businesses to grow and prosper.
“TD has been a leader in its recognition of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, both internally among its own employees and externally with regard to its customers and the community,” said R. Bruce McDonald, co-founder and Chair of the CGLCC. “TD was the first bank to introduce same-sex benefits in the Canadian workplace, back in 1994. And TD’s external programs, services and activities are so numerous the bank was named one of Affinity Magazine’s 2016 Top Corporations for 2SLGBTQI+ economic empowerment.”
“It is an honour to receive this recognition from an organization that understands our diversity is a strength and competitive advantage,” said Bharat Masrani, Group President and Chief Executive Officer, TD Bank Group. “At TD, we are also grateful for our longstanding relationship with the 2SLGBTQI+ community, through our many community partners, customers and colleagues; all of whom enrich our lives and make us the better bank.”
“We want to recognize TD Bank Group for showing that a commitment to diversity is not only the right thing, it also makes good business sense,” said Darrell Schuurman, CEO & Co-Founder, CGLCC.
The award was presented at the CGLCC’s Black & White Gala in Toronto on November 2, 2017.
