CGLCC and Brainspired Publishing (a partnership of INspired Media Inc., leading community media publications and platforms, and CGLCC diverse supplier ( are celebrating October as Book Month, and will be taking a look at the work of Canadian LGBT+ authors through various events throughout the month.

The Book Club

The Book Club starts on October 1 and concludes at the end of the month.

CGLCC has selected “Breaking Free, 45 Years in the wrong body” by author Joelle Circé Laramée as the featured book. This is a great book, as well an important book, to get a better understanding of the journey of transitioning. Here is what one reader wrote:

“I couldn’t put this memoir down and looked forward to reading it every day until I sadly finished it. I think everyone should read this book. What a woman. She lovingly takes you through her journey from childhood to now- all of the struggles and triumphs; her artistic process and transitioning into the woman she was born to be. She addresses important issues on transphobia, discrimination, otherness, mental health and misogyny in society. It is heartbreaking and enlightening, funny and smart, honest and emotionally intelligent. Walk a mile in her shoes, you won’t regret it.”

Those registered for the Book Club through the CGLCC have the opportunity to purchase this book at a discount, and will have the month of October to read this amazing novel.

Special Event: October 27, 4:00 – 5:00pm EST

A video session will be held with Book Club registrants on October 27 where we will be discussing the book with Antoine Elhashem and even receive a special visit from the author!

NOTE: Book Clubs can be a great way to promote and train businesses and staff members more about diversity, equity, and inclusion. A business of any size can start their own LGBT+ Book Club today! Reading together as a team helps foster further understanding of the diverse lifestyles, experiences, perspectives, and stories within the LGBT+ community. Brainspired Publishing would be delighted to help you set that up for your team. We may even invite your book club to be a guest on our literary podcast “Turning the Page”.
