Following the success of the last trade mission in Palm Springs, USA, the spotlight shifted to New York City, where CGLCC was a proud sponsor of Lesbians Who Tech’s highly anticipated New York Summit, September 17-20, 2024.
As a dynamic center for 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurship and leadership, New York City provided the perfect backdrop for this event, which brought together tech, business, and media leaders from across the U.S. The summit aimed to elevate mid-senior women, women of color, and nonbinary leaders in these industries, fostering an inclusive environment that celebrated diverse voices and innovations.
The Canadian delegation was formed by 9 representatives from different industries such as: Coaching & Consulting, Marketing, Advertising, Media, Video Production, AI, and Digital Health. The delegates rated the mission as exceptional, having participated in over 50 B2B meetings and identifying more than 100 potential leads, all aimed at driving new business opportunities.
The Summit served as a unique platform addressing the specific challenges faced by LGBTQ women and nonbinary individuals in the tech sector. The participants attended talks and sessions focused on pressing topics such as Generative AI, Cybersecurity, Health and Climate Innovation, with an emphasis on leadership development and career growth.
CGLCC’s Trade Delegation agenda included activities such as VIP Tech Crawls and exlcusive access to an event hosted by National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) NYC chapter. Another important moment of this mission was a meeting at the Canadian Consulate with Senior and industry specific Trade Commissioners, where delegates were able to introduce their businesses and seek information on the NYC market.
By facilitating connections between Canadian and U.S. businesses and promoting the development of diverse leaders in tech, the CGLCC played a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive economic landscape; and expanding our program offerings to more members of our community of communities.
The collaborative efforts between CGLCC and Lesbians Who Tech signaled a bright future for 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurs, showcasing New York City as a beacon of innovation, diversity, and opportunity.
For those interested in future trade missions or events, CGLCC invites continued engagement and exploration of collaboration opportunities. As the 2SLGBTQI+ business community grows, initiatives like these pave the way for increased visibility and support, ensuring that diversity and inclusion remain at the forefront of economic development.
