Exploratory Trade Mission: CGLCC Delegation to Mexico City

Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) successfully led a diverse cohort of 10 LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs on a Queer International Trade Mission to Mexico City this past November. The event was an extraordinary platform for strengthening global partnerships, fostering economic inclusion, and showcasing the power of diversity in business in Latin America and Canada.

The mission began virtually on November 19th, where delegates joined a preparatory session titled How to Do Business in Mexico, led by the Canadian Embassy in Mexico. This session equipped participants with valuable insights into the Mexican market and set the tone for an impactful mission.

A major highlight of the mission was the Pride Connection México Summit, held at the Centro Citibanamex Convention Center. CGLCC brought together 10 2SLGBTQI+ Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to connect with over 100 leading corporations committed to diversity and inclusion. With representatives from sectors such as technology, finance, consulting, and consumer goods, the summit was a bustling hub of networking and collaboration.

The delegates described the mission as exceptional, participating in over 80 B2B meetings and uncovering more than 150 potential leads—paving the way for exciting new business opportunities.

Canadian delegates participated in key sessions such as Disruptive Leadership for SMEs and Leadership of LGBTQ+ Women in Organizations. These discussions emphasized leadership, innovation, and economic empowerment for LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs. A dedicated networking session provided delegates the chance to pitch their businesses directly to corporate representatives, fostering meaningful connections.

The mission also included a formal Meet and Greet Reception at the Embassy of Canada in Mexico, offering delegates the opportunity to engage directly with Canadian and Mexican stakeholders. This event underscored the strong support of the Trade Commissioner Service, whose hospitality and guidance contributed significantly to the mission’s success.

In collaboration with international partners such as Cámara de la Diversidad Colombia, Câmara de Comércio e Turismo LGBT do Brasil, and NGLCC, the mission highlighted the value of cross-border initiatives in advancing LGBTQ+ economic empowerment. The efforts of these chambers of commerce demonstrated the possibilities of blending international trade with development goals, particularly in supporting migrant and refugee inclusion, trans representation, and intersectionality across Latin America.

As CGLCC continues to champion initiatives that drive diversity and economic empowerment, this mission stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and community-driven growth.

A special thanks to Pride Connection México and the Canadian Embassy for their exceptional support, and to all the delegates who represented the vibrant and innovative spirit of Canada’s LGBTQ+ business community.

We also thank ACTIF and Equitas for their vital support in advancing inclusive economic growth and empowering LGBTQ+ communities. Their collaboration has been key to the success of this mission, fostering stronger networks and promoting diversity across Latin America.
